Payment, Refund & Donation Policy

How online donations are processed, receipted and, where necessary, refunded.

Effective from 10 September 2026

1. How donations are processed

Online donations are processed through Razorpay, a payment aggregator authorised by the Reserve Bank of India, supporting UPI, debit and credit cards, netbanking and wallets.

Your payment credentials are entered on Razorpay's secure, PCI-DSS compliant checkout. They are never transmitted to or stored on Prajna's servers.

A donation is recorded as received only after Razorpay confirms it to us directly through a verified server-to-server notification. A message on your screen or a redirect back to our website is not by itself confirmation.

2. Donations are voluntary

A donation to Prajna is a voluntary contribution towards our charitable objects. It is not a payment for goods or services, and it does not create any entitlement to services, admission, or any other benefit for the donor or any other person.

3. Receipts

An acknowledgement is sent by email to the address you provide, normally within 48 hours of a confirmed donation. Please check that your email address is entered correctly, and check your spam folder before contacting us about a missing receipt.

4. Tax exemption under section 80G

Where Prajna holds a valid registration under section 80G of the Income Tax Act 1961, donors may claim deduction as permitted by that section and the rules made under it.

To issue an 80G receipt we require your full name, postal address, PAN, mobile number and email address. Without a PAN we cannot report the donation as required, and an 80G receipt cannot be issued.

Donation reporting is made in the statement of donations that the trust is required to file; the deduction available to you depends on your own tax position.

5. Refunds and cancellations

Donations are generally non-refundable, because funds are committed to programmes for children soon after receipt. We will, however, refund in the following circumstances:

  • A duplicate donation caused by a technical error or a repeated submission.
  • An amount debited without a corresponding donation being recorded.
  • A demonstrable error in the amount donated, raised promptly.
  • An unauthorised transaction reported to us and to your bank.

6. How to request a refund

Write to prajnacare@gmail.com within 15 days of the transaction, with the date, amount and payment reference number. We will respond within 7 working days. Approved refunds are made to the original payment instrument within 7 to 10 working days, subject to the timelines of your bank or payment provider.

Where an 80G receipt has already been issued for a donation that is later refunded, the receipt stands cancelled and must not be used to claim a deduction.

7. Failed and pending transactions

If an amount is debited but the donation is not confirmed, it is normally reversed automatically by your bank within 5 to 7 working days. If it is not, contact us with the transaction reference and we will trace it with the payment gateway.

8. Foreign donations

This donation facility is for Indian domestic donations only, credited to Prajna's regular bank account.

Donations from foreign sources, as defined in the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act 2010, cannot be accepted unless and until Prajna holds FCRA registration or prior permission together with the designated FCRA bank account. Donors resident outside India should contact us before attempting to donate.

9. Bank transfers

For larger or offline donations you may transfer directly to the account shown on our donate page. Please email us the transaction reference so we can identify your donation and issue a receipt.
